Prosperity Party and Avocado

If you’re a big fan of Etymology [origin of words] like yours truly, you would be excused if you think that the person who slapped the name “Avocado” on the fruit [yes it is a fruit] had a dirty mind. It is an old Spanish word for “Testicles” for it resembles the one in an Oxen and also it grows in pairs as well.
In recent years, Avocado has drawn a lot of attention for its health benefits particularly among the diet enthusiasts—for good reason I should add. However, the interest in it is not for a supplement due to lack of basic foods but a preferred diet with in abundance of variety of foods.
Prosperity Party, the party whose political ticket is wealth and affluence, on the other hand recommends consumption of Avocado in a time of want. Perhaps, Abiy Ahmed may not have said it from a balcony and was not during the French Revolution but it has the contempt of Marie Antoinette’s infamous , “Let them eat cake” condescending undertone.
What is even disturbingly astounding is that why can’t the Party or Abiy Ahmed himself dig into the root of the crisis instead of making a fool of himself or pretending to be one when he is in fact playing with peoples minds and lives? Precisely because as Voltaire once put it about the “Holy Roman Empire” when he said, it is neither Holy nor Roman or an Empire, Prosperity Party is an assembly of crooks, charlatans and turncoats whose sole purpose is staying in power by any means necessary including inviting foreign forces to milk the economy to its bones till staple foods are replaced with Avocados and oil is replaced with water and salt. So much for Prosperity!
I don’t mean to rehash what is out there in the news but it warrants a context when the war declared on Tigray is not only the cause for the collapse of the country’s economy but it has also an overarching effect on the region in general where what Ismail Ahmed Guelleh recently lamented about the rattled economy of his country [Djibouti] comes to mind.
A prophet in the wilderness once forewarned—the late Ambassador Seyoum Mesfin where the ramification would be dire should Abiy Ahmed declares war on Tigray to the extent that it would engulf the entire region but Abiy and his enablers were raved in a craze rhapsody to finish Tigray off under the guise of Law and Order. Abiy bit more than he could chew and in the end losing the country all together.
It is not melodramatic or hyperbole. It is real when in fact, the political conundrum is taking the back stage when the humanitarian crisis including the appalling recent—the tip of the iceberg AI and HRW report is taking the center stage. As such, not only the road to ICC is a forgone conclusion but the already collapsed economy will be demanded to pay indemnity to every Tigrean household that had been a victim of atrocities by all the actors involved including the Eritrean regime and Amhara elites not to mention Abiy Ahmed and his army including all the intellectuals, academics, scholars and members of the religious and civic institutions who lent hand to the genocidal campaign. Time as they say is the hidden factor. No joke!
