{"id":12672,"date":"2021-10-28T18:13:52","date_gmt":"2021-10-28T18:13:52","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/axumawian.com\/?p=12672"},"modified":"2021-10-28T18:13:55","modified_gmt":"2021-10-28T18:13:55","slug":"doctor-reports-10-dead-from-latest-air-strike-in-north-ethiopia-war","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/axumawian.com\/?p=12672","title":{"rendered":"Doctor reports 10 dead from latest air strike in north Ethiopia war"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Source: <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/africa\/ethiopia-air-strike-hits-tigray-tplf-says-3-civilians-killed-govt-says-factory-2021-10-28\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Reuters<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">October 28, 2021<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Federal government says it hit military store in Mekelle<\/li><li>Local Tigrayan forces say residential area struck<\/li><li>Thousands die, 2 million uprooted, in year-long war<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An Ethiopian government jet bombed the capital of northern Tigray region on Thursday, with one doctor reporting 10 deaths in the latest casualties of a year-long war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed&#8217;s federal forces have hit Mekelle from the skies at least eight times in the last two weeks, residents say, in a fight against local Tigrayan forces that has killed thousands and uprooted more than 2 million people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Foreign powers are pressing for mediation and the United States is&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/africa\/ethiopian-textile-industry-risk-if-us-suspends-trade-deal-over-tigray-war-2021-10-28\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">threatening sanctions<\/a>&nbsp;to stem a conflict reverberating across the already volatile and impoverished Horn of Africa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ethiopia&#8217;s government said Thursday&#8217;s air strike hit and destroyed the other part of Mesfin Industrial Engineering PLC, a factory complex&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/world\/africa\/capital-ethiopias-tigray-hit-by-air-strike-second-time-this-week-tv-2021-10-20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">bombed last week<\/a>&nbsp;where it said the Tigray People&#8217;s Liberation Front (TPLF) stored military equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But TPLF spokesperson Getachew Reda said the strike hit the Kebele 05 residential neighbourhood, killing three people, inuring several others and destroying three houses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hayelom Kebede, a doctor at Mekelle&#8217;s Ayder Referral Hospital, told Reuters that so far 10 people have died as a result of the strike and 21 were injured. He predicted the death toll would rise because medical care is severely constrained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another doctor told Reuters he saw six people pulled out of rubble in Kebele 5 but he could not tell if they were alive or dead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-2 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><ul class=\"blocks-gallery-grid\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"960\" height=\"467\" src=\"https:\/\/axumawian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/561.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"12674\" data-full-url=\"https:\/\/axumawian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/561.jpg\" data-link=\"https:\/\/axumawian.com\/?attachment_id=12674\" class=\"wp-image-12674\"\/><\/figure><\/li><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"720\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/axumawian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/563.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"12675\" data-full-url=\"https:\/\/axumawian.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/563.jpg\" data-link=\"https:\/\/axumawian.com\/?attachment_id=12675\" class=\"wp-image-12675\"\/><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Bloodstained Rubble<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tigrayan TV showed pictures of Red Cross workers near collapsed brick structures with corrugated iron rooves. Blankets and kettles lay among bloodstained wreckage. At one point, gloved volunteers hastily covered a body part with a sheet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A resident of the city who visited the site said he saw a five-year-old transported alive from the rubble to hospital.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Asked about reported civilian deaths, government spokesperson Legesse Tulu replied in a text message: &#8220;There is not any intended and deliberate harm on civilians and their properties.
