At least 33,000 children in areas that aid workers can\u2019t reach \u201care severely malnourished and face imminent death without immediate help,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Millions in need:<\/strong>&nbsp;In Tigray,&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfp.org\/news\/wfp-executive-director-immediate-access-lifesaving-food-deliveries-tigray-critical\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">at least 4 million people<\/a>&nbsp;are facing&nbsp;severe hunger&nbsp;overall, with 350,000 \u2014 including&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.unicef.org\/press-releases\/least-33000-children-parts-tigray-ethiopia-imminent-risk-death-conflict-increases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">140,000 children<\/a>&nbsp;\u2014 facing famine. Among the people screened by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.devex.com\/organizations\/world-food-programme-wfp-44564\">World Food Programme<\/a>&nbsp;teams in 53 villages, half of mothers and almost a quarter of children are malnourished, WFP Executive Director David Beasley said last week.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">UNICEF expects that 56,000 children under 5 years of age will need treatment for severe acute malnutrition this year \u2014 a figure almost six times higher than the region\u2019s average annual caseload \u2014 Fore said.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And these staggering numbers are still only estimates. A recent analysis did not even include the food security situation in western Tigray due to a lack of information,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfp.org\/news\/wfp-executive-director-immediate-access-lifesaving-food-deliveries-tigray-critical\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">WFP noted<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Cease-fire and humanitarian access:<\/strong>\u00a0Armed groups blocking humanitarian access to those in need of aid is fueling this crisis.
